If you have strong links with another area - for example you have relatives there or you used to live there, you may be able to register on the council list there.
You can register with more than one council without any penalty, but if you are successful in being housed please let all the councils you are registered with know. This helps them provide a better service to others who are still waiting for housing.
Different councils have different demands on their stock and you will find that different areas have different waiting times.
Some councils have online assessments where you can see if you would be likely to be housed. Look on the websites of individual councils in the area you are interested in.
